First of all, this is not the right place
to ask for new plugins - the appropriate
stickied thread is:

[wordrider.net]

Second, FRD does already have a
"channel5" plugin,
FRD -> Options -> Preferences -> Plugins -> channel5.com v1.0.1

but as you have found out, it
doesn't function anymore... sad smiley

Some background history info:

FRD did support both channel4 (4oD)
and channel5 (Demand5) in the past;
back then, both outlets would
use the RTMP protocol to stream their shows.
Even then, they were highly protective of their streams:
1. They would use encrypted RTMPE
2. All their CDN rtmp servers were geo-blocked
and would require you use a UK VPN to fetch
from overseas.
3. Their rtmp "authentication tokens" were very
short-lived, I distinctly remember that for 4oD
they would last less than 5 min!

But more than two years ago, 4oD changed
protocol to AdobeHDS with FlashAccess
(now rebranded as Adobe Primetime) DRM
on-the-fly encryption, disabling all 4oD
downloaders (the stream encryption used
hasn't been cracked...).
For a brief period after the above change,
some unencrypted rtmp streams were kept
alive for their PSP/mobile devices web channels
/ sites, and some projects did make use of them
to download those low resolution streams
(better than nothing), but channel4 soon closed down
their PSP/mobile websites in favour of 4oD
"PSP/mobile" apps (which, unsurprisingly, use
exclusively encrypted streams/downloads).
Demand5 followed soon after, but they opted
at the time to keep the RTMPE protocol but
again encrypt on-the-fly their streams with an
appropriate DRM scheme...
Demand5 downloaders of the era would download
an encrypted/unplayable FLV file sad smiley
If you so recall, there also existed YouTube channels
of both 4oD & D5 with full shows - those used
unencrypted streams, but protected at the highest
level YouTube could offer (for those in the know,
RTMPE+Handshake10+SWF ver. type2) -
only GetFLV could download them and at real time...).
More than a year ago, those YouTube channels
ceased to offer complete shows, now only trailers /
short clips can be found...

I haven't bothered recently to check the status
of both 4oD & D5, I bet you anything they are
still encrypting their streams no matter the
streaming method...
Do realise they are both commercial broadcasters,
so they wouldn't stop at the additional cost required
to protect their highly paid-for content with the best
(uncrackable) scheme currently available...
It's a blessing in disguise BBC and ITV haven't yet
switched to DRM - let us enjoy it while it lasts...

Regards
