Complete portability issues
May 23, 2011 07:34AM
I have been using Free rapid downloader and can attest to the fact that it is fully intuitive, has features that put it at the fore front of the competition and has all the options I need not forgetting what a convenience it really is. When I start getting a paycheck that right after my first job I will surely show some support. There is only one thing thats really a problem, you cant use this application in a locked down machine that the owner refuses to have java run times installed. Does any one know how to tell Free rapid downloader to refer to its own folder for a copied installation of java runtimes called jre6 in its own folder? It doesnt make sense why it can run on a usb thumb drive but must have java runtimes installed why cant one copy the installation to the thumb drive folder and then have it check for the runtimes in the thumb drive?
Its really frustrating when you are using a workstation where you arent allowed to instal the runtimes. Does anyone have any work around to this?

You can execute FRD using the Java binary. "java.exe -Xmx160m -jar frd.jar"

Am assuming you are running this from the runtimes location right?
Where do I place the jre6 runtimes with reference to frd.jar for this?

Place java.exe on our %path%
or use path_to_java.exe in that command
You can place JRE6 anywhere you want.

It tells me
"F:\>FreeRapid\jre6\Bin\java.exe -Xmx160m -jar frd.jar
'java.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."

Obviously F:\>FreeRapid\jre6\Bin\java.exe does not exist

Look, if I knew how to do it then I wouldn't be asking, thats why I have posted exactly what I have done so that you can correct me by showing me how its done. That by the way is the actually path to where the java.exe file is located on the copied java runtimes in my thumb drive.

frd.jar must be where the command prompt points at the time you run the command, in your previous example it was F:\

If F: is your USB drive, you can extract FRD to F:\FreeRapid\

Extract or install Java to F:\Java\

Then open the command prompt, do "cd /d F:\FreeRapid", and then "F:\Java\bin\java.exe -Xmx160m -jar frd.jar".
