ITV plugin & subtitles support

Hello to the devs :-)

Your hard work keeping up with the ever changing sites
that demand plugin fixes is immensely appreciated by
the whole FRD community.

The ITV plugin, thank God, has been working fine for
quite a while now (I don't wanna jinx it!), especially in
unison with the Tor plugin.
However, many TV programmes on the ITV Player
are subtitled, but sadly itv.frp v1.1.4 is not able to download the subs.

Back in the earlier days when you could watch a show online
without registering with them, I would start the playback of a
particular subtitled show and then use Fx's web console to
locate the URL of the subs' .xml file; I'd download that file
and then use special subtitle application to convert from
.xml -> .srt.
This is no longer possible, without registering that is...
(which I don't want...:X).

Would you consider adding subtitles support
for the ITV plugin (as is the case with bbc.frp) ?
Possibly, the following ITV.pm plugin of "get-flash-videos"
(a Perl script) could be of help:
https://github.com/njtaylor/get-flash-videos/blob/master/lib/FlashVideo/Site/Itv.pm#L164

Many thanks in advance >:D<

> Could you show me how to make frd work with tor ,
> with the geographic ip address suitable for bbc iplayer ?

Hi, chancemimi ;-)

First of all, I don't fully understand your query;
it is posted in an ITV plugin related thread, yet
you don't say whether ITV downloads work in your setup.
Since you are asking about Tor, I assume your
physical location is non-UK.
The ITV plugin is automatically linked to the Tor plugin, i.e.
1) if you already have a UK IP (via your ISP or some other
means, e.g. a UK VPN/HTTP proxy), then the ITV plugin
will use that.
2) if your original IP is non-UK, then the ITV plugin calls
the Tor plugin to use a UK Tor exit node IP.
The ITV servers have not (yet! - fingers crossed) blacklisted
the IP range of the UK Tor exit nodes,
so that ITV downloads continue to work satisfactorily no
matter where you are (just don't inform the ITVplayer team...:P)

If your query is about the bbc iplayer plugin, I'm afraid it is misplaced.
Some facts you need know:
1) Always update to the latest version of the plugin (currently 1.2.6).
2) In the bbc.co.uk plugin options, you must check the "Enable Tor" box.
3) If you aim at TV content, in the "Preferred CDN" field you must
choose "Limelight" for <=480p resolution & Level 3 for 720p resolution.
Akamai CDNs DO NOT WORK with Tor plugin or UK HTTP proxy.
4) The BBC have for some months now BLACKLISTED the UK IP
ranges provided by the Tor plugin; it is now a hit or miss situation.
You are most probable to get the "Not available in your area" message
when you first try the fetch.
Through trial & error I have found that:
After you get the "Not available in your area" message, CANCEL
(but do not delete) the download, wait a few seconds, then click the
RESUME button - if you again fail to initiate a download, repeat the
same routine 2 or 3 more times - usually it works max on the 4th attempt.
If still no go, you are better off configuring FRD to use a UK http proxy.
For more details, please search among my BBC related prior posts
(...they are numerous!).

(And when posting, ALWAYS provide more details about your setup,
i.e. OS and its architecture, Java version, FRD version, related plugins versions -
where necessary, you must also supply app logs for debugging...)

This is most excellent news (tu)(tu)
You are a God (no blasphemy intended):

Quote
Matthew 7:7–8
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find

Just tested successfully on the set of episodes
from the latest "Downton Abbey" series...

I wish you well :)-D
