I done your option 2(frd.exe ->Right click -> Run as administrator) and is ok.
Funny is that my account on the PC is as administrator but still it were necessary to select "Run as adm." as you mention above.
PS: after your option 2 the firewall ask if I wanted to unblocked(I answer yes of course).

2. information window... I select "show details"("update now" was the same error)
3. "Plugin updates" window... select "Update"
4. Plugins update window... Downloading new plugins...
5. error window: Update failed...

My accont on the PC is as administrator. Windows Vista home Premium. Java is updated-version 6SE Updated 15(build 1.6.0_15-b03).
At begin it was ok but since +-2 months I have this problem.
Do you have any idea what is the problem?
