Youtube downloading as separate m4v and m4a files
May 25, 2015 02:02AM
Probably me messing up the settings, but at the moment I'm getting some youtube videos downloading as separate m4v and m4a files.
I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me how to get back to normal downloading,
Thanks

Options -> Preferences -> Plugins -> scroll down until
you locate "youtube.com" v2.6.7 -> select it -> on the
right hand panel click "Options" -> on the popup
window "YouTube Settings" adjust your personal
preferences, but do make sure
"Enable DASH streams" &
"Enable Internal DASH multiplexer/merger"
are BOTH ticked!
This will enable >=1080p & 480p resolutions to be
downloaded as standalone MP4 files.

Thanks very much for your reply

Unfortunately, I've checked and both DASH boxes are ticked and I'm still getting the problem,

Other settings in that window if it's relevant:

Download Video is checked,
Options chosen:
-Highest Available quality
- Any container
-30fps

Convert to mp3 not checked

Extract Audio not checked

Download Subtitles checked

and it is v2.6.7 of the plugin

Hello, again smiling smiley
I have no interest in the webm file container -
my hardware player does not support it...
webm is a subspecies of the Matroska container;
youtube DASH video stream encoded in VP8/9
codec and youtube DASH audio stream encoded in
ogg/vorbis audio codec are supposed to get
muxed in the webm container, with .webm file extension.
As a first try, I would suggest
changing the container setting to MP4;
this is how I've set it and it works for me.

If you need to debug your still persisting issue
and aid the developers (I'm but an advanced user),
1. Post the offending youtube link
(keep your youtube plugin settings as you've posted
them - if you made any change to them, post it also...)
2. Install MediaInfo for your OS and architecture (x86 or x64)
and then probe with MediaInfo the individual (un-muxed)
DASH files (.m4v = DASH video, .m4a = DASH audio).
3. Post the probing logs generated by MediaInfo.
This would help determine the type of DASH streams
the internal multiplexer can't cope with.
4.You should probably also post app.log
(Help -> Browse to log file), to further aid the devs...

I do hope you get this sorted out spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
Cheers

Hi
Thanks very much again for your reply.

I've tried changing the preference to Mp4 but it doesn't seem to improve matters. In fact the m4a file got an error message instead of downloading - this was for an original flv file by the way, not an mp4.

At this point to be honest I have started to think that I'd be better off copying out my outstanding links still to be downloaded and reinstalling FRD from scratch - hopefully getting rid of the problem that way.
It will probably be less of a hassle all round.

Anyway, I appreciate all your help,
Best Regards
