... I am on Vista 32bit myself, but prefer
JavaRE 7 to (somewhat bloated) 8 - I
have a professor friend in Uni who can
get non-public Java 7 updates (via Oracle
Support) and... he helps me, too! winking smiley

I think you meant 1.7.0-b47 there,
as the latest (that I know of) is 1.7.0-b99 !

@tong2shot

I do not frequently use ulozto.net links and,
as KES has said, most of them work fine!
Perhaps KES can provide such "small-file"
non working links, if he comes across another
one, that is... smiling smiley

I'll have a look around for more non-working ULOZ links

b147 is what the about page says.

Just went to uloz.net and typed srt in the search box. Tried 2 random links and they worked. Went back and tried the one that was a problem and it too worked.

Has it been fixed? Seems so. Self-healing?

Be grateful for confirmation.

Hello KES, yes, I made a mistake
because I was speaking from memory,
which, sadly, failed me...

But your provided shot does reveal you
are currently on an EXTREMELY OUTDATED
version of JavaRE 7 from 2011!

This very outdated version has known and publicized
security flaws which, combined with the EOL status
of Windows XP itself, pose a serious risk for infection
of your computer.

If you have at least SP2 installed, then please
first uninstall completely that outdated Java version,
reboot, scan your system for possible infections
and if all good, navigate to:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html
scroll down to "Java SE Runtime Environment 7u80",
select "Accept License Agreement " and then
download jre-7u80-windows-i586.exe

Proceed to install JavaRE 7u80 -
this is the last public update of Java 7
provided by Oracle!
Your "about Java" popup should now read:
Version 7 Update 80 (build 1.7.0_80-b15)
Copyright (c) 2015, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
Even that is somewhat outdated, but
surely way more secure than the one
you are currently running!

I have the latest non-free update 99,
see attachment...

Still no joy here confused smiley
That specific sample link:

games-2015-srt

just refuses to download.
App.log re-attached.
But as said already in this thread,
it's not a real issue, since 99.9%
of ulozto.net links are fine -
it shall probably remain a
software oddity confused smiley

Life's too short, YOLO, spring is upon us
and the likes...smoking smiley

Best regards

The Java I have is not from 2011 that is just the copyright date. It is from an auto update on 18th March 2015. From that date updater tried to install JRE 8 which is, from memory, not XP compatible. I turned off updater. Just now I turned updater back on and version 8 was offered. I declined and turned updater off.

I may try what you say but only after I've made a full backup. When oracle have confusing file versions and no issue dates it is difficult to know what is what.

I'll keep a watch for more of those pesky small uloz files (.srt). I get offered them regularly and none have ever worked until now.

Hello KES winking smiley

First of all, please don't get me wrong;
I just want to help as a fellow FRD/Java user smiling smiley
I do not want to force my opinion on you,
you are free to stay with whatever version of
software on your own machine...
And I, of course, can't tell what sort of updates
you received, I can only judge from the "About Java"
screenshot you posted...

Having said the above, I still insist on my initial opinion!
Please do read:

[stackoverflow.com]

and

Feel free to perform a net search
for 1.7.0-b147 and you'll again
discover that the java version shown
on your screenshot is the first ever Java 7
version, released in July of 2011...

As part of the deprecation of Java 7,
on every machine with Java 7 installed,
no matter the version of Java 7, since 20/01/2015
the auto-updater will, as you found out,
prompt you to upgrade to Java 8.
More at:

In an ill-thought move by Oracle, the
upgrade prompt would show even on
Windows XP boxes, on which Java 8
can't be installed ! angry smiley

So, to update Java 7 you have to go
the manual way...
The version I recommended (7u80)
was released in April 2015, it was
the last public 7 update and was
EOL'd on 14/07/2015:

[java.com]

So, IMHO, you should update ASAP...

> I may try what you say but only after
> I've made a full backup

Are you using the Java™ SE Development Kit 7
to develop Java apps?
With only the JavaRE installed, I've always found
the direct manual update via offline installer
to be trouble-free...
But you probably know what's best for you...

Best regards!

I disagree and stay with my opinion of the version / install date / file date of Java. I did however make a full backup (just in case) and installed the version you recommended. It does seem to be a small upgrade upon the version I was using and works fine with FRD so I'll keep it.

I do not develop apps (although I had done so 15 years ago before I retired) so have no need for a development version.

If you have any influence with Oracle you should tell them to sort out their version numbers. Get the auto updater to trigger only for updates on the version of OS being used and generally get their act together. The are after all supposed to be programmers not 3-year-olds. I only recently had much discussion with NVIDIA when their updater kept telling me my Java was outdated and they could not auto check for latest graphics adapter software. After many email back and forth they fixed it. A 64 year old retired webmaster telling some jumped up 20+ year-old how to program correctly!

Wow, 64 years. After 30 years in front of a screen I'm soon-to-be-blind confused smiley But the good news is that they have listened to you, I fight the young and dynamic every day, usually because they are too lazy to read the RFC and make it correctly... "chill out dude, it works in my (unintentionally auto installed crapware) chrome" eye rolling smiley Sorry for off topic..

I have problems with larger files over 1GB with current plugin version:

It takes a long time before a download is started, about 30 seconds. Sometimes, it times out completely with the "error starting download" message.
