FreeRapid Downloader 0.9beta2 release

Hello everybody,
we are back and we bring another release for you.

Update: Download links for beta version were removed. Please download full final 0.9 version from [wordrider.net] .

Although we consider this release as pretty much stable, please report any possible bugs or problems related with this version in this thread.

Some translations need an update - information for translators

List of changes:

29th October 2012 - FreeRapid Downloader 0.9 Beta 2
  Added : The Armenian translation was enabled
  Changed : The Traditional Chinese translation had to be disabled as two files were found to be corrupted
  Changed : Internal - All translations are now encoded in UTF-8 for consistency
  Changed : File rename action is limited to files in COMPLETED state
  Changed : start.bat was renamed to frd.bat
  Fixed : Miscellaneous bugs and regressions

10th October 2012 - FreeRapid Downloader 0.9 Beta
  Added : After in-depth consideration, all non-updated translations were enabled, bringing the total number of
          supported languages to 31. Missing strings will appear in English. 
          Updates to translations are warmly welcome, as usual.
  Added : Several translations were updated - thanks to all translators!
  Added : Downloaded files can be renamed within FRD
  Added : Support for zooming captcha image (enable in preferences dialog)
  Added : Progress bar while downloading plugin updates
  Added : PGSLookAndFeel is bundled again (choose in preferences dialog)
  Added : Plugin API
           - A few new methods to MethodBuilder
           - FileStreamRecognizer improvements
           - Changed approach to unlimited cryptography
  Changed : Removed global simultaneous downloads limit
  Changed : Internal file list and download history storage backend changed to a much more robust database system.
            This should provide performance improvements for large lists, and the list should not be lost anymore
            in case of improper shutdown. Note that older versions of FRD will not be able to read the new format.
  Changed : Plugins and log files are now stored in the configuration directory, which makes it possible
            to run FRD from a read-only directory, such as Program Files on Windows Vista and later.
  Changed : Internal - Updated various libraries to their latest versions
  Fixed : All downloads would stop working after a direct download until restart of program
  Fixed : Miscellaneous smaller issues

We know there are not many new GUI features, but there is a ton of internal changes, which makes FRD work much better. Also, with these changes we will able to add more features easily in the near future.

Have to report this:
After renaming a file, if I pause it & start again, the name get reverted.
Or if you rename an already paused file, & start later on.. the same thing happens.

Hope it will be fixed.

Thanks for reporting. The hotkey for clipboard monitoring was changed to F7, but hotkeys are stored in language files. Most languages (including French) weren't updated, so they still get the F8 hotkey for clipboard monitoring from the translated files, and for quiet mode from the English files.

We had a discussion on this - how to implement rename function. If we make renaming permanent, there won't be any simple chance how to get original file name again.
I will probably limit rename function to state COMPLETE.

Thank for the new beta! Error report attached.

I installed in a new directory and copied over my frd.xml file. To run frd I sudoed a terminal window and started a sh script (attached) in it. At first run the new beta detected new plugins, and downloaded and installed them. I think the error message come up when I selected something in a menu.
Mousing menus was broken. I had to keep the left button down to be able to navigate the menus. As soon as I released the left button the menu closed. So I couldn't select a menu entry with my mouse. The only practical way to use frd was by keyboard. CtrlQ.

BTW, how do I disable the automatic check for new plugins at startup? I prefer to check manually.

Then I restarted frd (same method). Got some error text in the terminal (attached). This time the mouse worked. I checked for new plugins (none found), all OK. Then I opened the preferences dialog and enabled the new captcha zoom. Closed the dialog. After about 2 seconds got the same error dialog as in the first run. Same error report dialog text, same app.log data.

What Java version do you use? It seems it's such kind of related problem.
Can you also attach your file filelist.xml imported (from configuration folder)?

It's in the "general" settings. We recommend to enable this feature and set up quiet updates.

Great work on the new version

The only minor error I have found was my download list did not import into new version
The file "filesList.xml" missing and only "filesList.xml.backup" existed
I fixed by renaming the backup and restarting FRD, but it should check for both

An issue found while testing
Adding a large number of links should be added to the list Paused, as every new link added will now validate simultaneously
which can overload internet bandwidth and cpu, making FRD unusable until most links have validated
This will be a problem for users with limited bandwidth or older computers.
- Suggestions: Set a limit (fixed or adjustable) on the number of concurrent validations that can occur,
OR Add a warning when inserting new links and pressing "Start", if over a given number of links Prompt to recommend using "Add Paused"
