enable auto-shutdown option in ubuntu

Hey!
In order to enable the auto-shutdown option in ubuntu, I changed the appropriate line in "syscmd.properties" to
shutdown=sudo shutdown -h now

The problem is, that when I enable the option, after the countdown I am asked to enter the root password in the terminal (from which I launched FRD). This line immediately disappears.
Now, except for the fact that I can't enter the password quickly enough, this defeats the purpose of the auto-shutdown option (I need to enter a password at shutdown).
Running FRD as root would probably solve this, but I don't think that's a safe option. Is there some way I can enter the root password when I enable "auto-shutdown" and it will remember it until the actual shutdown?

Thanks in advance!
