Ubuntu 9.10 Compiz Crash
April 15, 2010 01:15PM
Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) 2.6.31-19-generic - amd64

java version "1.6.0_0"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.6.1) (6b16-1.6.1-3ubuntu3)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode)

I've been running into this issue for a while now where when I start FreeRapid my desktop goes on the fritz and I'm my windows disappear/reappear at random smiling smiley

I originally thought it was a problem with Avant Window Navigator..then perhaps Vuze (Azureus) but I closed both of them and was still seeing the same issue. I also attempted to run Sun java via:

/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.16/jre/bin/java -Xmx128m -jar frd.jar "$@"

however, still got the same issue. When I turned off Compiz effects that fixed it and now I am able to run FreeRapid.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a java issue since I run Vuze which runs on top of java and it works fine in Compiz. If you need any additional information (debugs, logs, etc) I'll be happy to assist. For the time being I'll be running FreeRapid in a virtual machine because I enjoy Compiz and Avant and would rather not sacrifice these thumbs up smiley

Thanks,

KJ

I can just say one thing. It's not a problem in FRD source code.

I'm able to run the following apps using the same parameters and the same Java version:

[java-apps.org]
[java-apps.org]
[java-apps.org]
[java-apps.org]

I'm pretty sure I could find a 100 apps that I can run under my current configuration but I don't have all day to look.

If you are certain that this isn't an FRD issue....why I am not seeing the same issue with other Java apps?

you may try some JVM parameters to disable OpenGL etc. when running FRD.
As I said, it's out of scope of FRD's source code.
