this solution worked here too. also, if I restart frd with windows classic theme and set windows7 to a theme that uses aero frd continues without this bug, but if i use any other theme than windows classic in frd (with windows 7 in any theme, aero or non-aero) the bug remains.

It's not a bug in FRD -- the Look and Feels are not our code (some are internal JRE LaFs, most are 3rd party). There is some incompatibility with Java2D and your graphics drivers. Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do about it.

Another solution here: in the interface tab uncheck the "use decorated windows" checkbox and most problems with the gui will be solved, now I can use my aero theme and any frd skin again.
