Number of Proxies Used by FRD?
February 28, 2011 04:45PM
I've always update my proxy list in a text file and upload to FRD.
Today, I've collected 500 proxies in the text file and uploaded to FRD.

However, when I was downloading a file today, I went to right click "Force Download" and I see the proxy list.
However, I noticed I can see only a portion of the proxies. This means that I'll only able to select those
proxies shown in "Force Download" and not further down my actual proxy list, which has 500 proxies.

So, my questions are:

1. Does FRD verify if a proxy is alive and active, or it does not?

2. If "Force Download" only shows a portion of the proxy, does this mean it is no point for me to have 500 or more
proxies, as FRD will not use those proxies further down the list?

Please kindly clarify.

1. No
2. It should show everything. Check the list is being reloaded.

Hi Vity,

I've made a clip to show what I mean. From what I tried, the FRD does not show the full list of proxies, which in the clip, you can see the full list of proxies shown on the text file on the right.

Did I do anything wrong here? For try as I might, I am not able to show the full list from "Forced Download".

Please click on clip link to see what I mean:

That's obviously GUI problem. The list continues under monitor screen. FRD was not designed to be used with so long list of proxies.

If it is GUI problem, then it is FRD that is causing it, because this "Forced Download" feature is within FRD software.
What is the point of saying the list continues under monitor screen if a user cannot click on it and cannot scroll to the bottom of the list. It just gets truncated at the bottom of the monitor screen. The question that needs to be answered is does FRD recognize and use ALL the proxies or only those proxies it can show on the screen, right?

I'm sure you know what I meant, for example, in Windows XP, if one click on "Start", "All Programs", we can scroll through the full list of programs because there is an "UP" arrow and a "DOWN" arrow for scrolling purpose, even though it goes below the monitor screen.

Finally, if the GUI cannot show the full list of proxies, does that also mean that it will not recognize and USE the full list, but only those proxies it can show in the GUI? Or is it just a GUI problem when one uses the "Forced Download" feature?

If the FRD software is not designed for a long list of proxies, can you let us know how many proxies it will accept in total?

Thanks.

It's stupid to use 500 proxies and to list 500 items in popmenu.
Rule #1 with proxies - Use your own working proxies. That's what it was designed for.
All proxies are used automatically.

It will be stupid if I do not bother to find out from you and ask. So far, the proxies I used are acceptable.
They are from nntime.com and I find most of the proxies are fresh, but of course, not all, but that will
do is they are free and I am happy. I download simultaneously over 100 files across a few file-sharing site,
a handful, like hotfile and rapidshare, that's all. So, I will need as many proxies as I can use to avoid the timer.
500 proxies are not really alot and you can imagine why.

Just wondering if FRD uses all since I can't access all from the popup menu. That's why I ask to clarify.

Thank you for a great software. We all know you've a winner there and more so, it is free.

There's another free software FreeFileSyn, which is on the same level as FRD, much much better than paid
software. I've donated to FFS and will donate to FRD once I get the total hang of it. :) :) :)

Yes, FRD uses all the proxies you have in the list, even though the right-click menu expands below your screen.

Thanks for clarifying. Now I know that FRD automatically uses ALL proxies on the list.

In any case, I can't pick a proxy when I'm in "Forced Download", if the proxy happens to be below the monitor screen, since it is a GUI problem.

What I normally do is to allow FRD to pick any proxy it deems fit, but if a particular download is troublesome, I will pause the download and then choose "Forced Download" to pick a particular proxy which I know is fast, fresh and reliable.
The issue now is that I can't do that if that proxy happens to be one that was truncated out below the monitor screen, since I can't access it from the GUI.

Whether FRD considers this a Request or a Bug, I leave it to your good judgment.

Thanks for a great software in any case.
