Slow downloads.
March 10, 2011 05:11AM
I haven't been able to get FreeRapid to download at anything faster than a crawl.

With other download managers I get a steady download speed of 160 kbps, but with FreeRapid the top speed is around 40 kbps, and often only 20.
I have premium accounts with Filesreve, Filesonic and Hotfile, and in tests done back to back with other download managers, FreeRapid never gets
speeds above 25% of the others. No matter what file, or what server.

Have I made some error in the setup? I'm on a Mac. Any help would really be appreciated.

FRD is never responsible for a download speed.
Don't look for a problem inside FRD.

Then, how do you explain that I can download the same file 4 times in a row (using 4 different managers) and FRD is the only one not downloading at my maximum speed?

I cannot explain it, because I cannot emulate your settings and download servers.

Is there anything I could have incorrectly set that could be causing this? I don;t have the speed limiter on, so it's not that.

Compare a download time, not a download speed.

Yes, I thought of that. But it takes 4 times longer too, so that;s not it.

Are you downloading using several connections, or parts or "chunks", with the other download managers? FRD only supports progressive download using a single connection per file.

I have been downloading a single file, but the other managers did split it into multiple threads, so I disabled that so it now is a single download the
same as FRD. It didn't have any effect on them. They are still at least 4 times faster. Looking back through previous threads over the last year
or so, this has come up numerous times. Could it be Mac related?
