FYI: I was following the FireFox Update Add-Ons suggestion and it noted that Java updates were available. And it further suggested that in addition to the 32bit update (JRE 6 Update 25 - 32x) I might also need to take the same update in the 64 bit version JRE6 Update 25 - 64 bit if I was running a 64 bit browser.
So I took them both, first I took the 32 bit (as they insisted) then after that the 64 bit update.
jre-6u25-windows-i586-s.exe
jre-6u25-windows-x64.exe
Later I tried to run FreeRapid (FreeRapid-0.85u1-b566) and noted FreeRapid would not start at all. I'd click the icon to start FR and I'd see a brief flash on the screen and then nothing. Reboots did not help. Download and replace from fresh zip file (version was the same as I was already using). No help.
Finally I UNINSTALLED JRE 6 Update 25 64x (used "Your Uninstaller" software, Normal mode) and tested FR again and it now works perfectly, even without a reboot or other effort.
Just FYI. I am on Windows 7 Pro 64bit with 16 GB DRAM, etc.
UPDATE:
I just thought FreeRapid was working again. FreeRapid opened and went after the file (or so it appeared). My download meter even showed I was downloading at a healthy speed. BUT .. the progress bar in FreeRapid was not moving at all. Eventually I received a JAVA HEAP error message from FreeRapid (or the message appeared on the FR screen area) and the download failed completely.
Eventually, unable to fine an earlier version of Java to get me back to JRE 6 Update 24, I just restored from a backup and FreeRapid is downloading for me as I type this.
